Source 18650 Battery Tube
Two versions. Same tube, different approach.
Both versions share the same 304 stainless tube and the same nickel plated brass bottom cap. Where they differ is the top cap — and whether we give you a mounting interface or leave you to make your own. It is a real choice, and neither one replaces the other.
v2. The smallest 18650 tube we make. No mounting provision, because it doesn’t need one — modders have been fixing these however their build demands since 2023, and the tube stays out of the way while they do it. If space is tight and you already know how you’re holding it, this is still the one.
v3 — screw mount. For when you’d rather not devise a fixing. Six tapped holes in the top cap, mountable from either side, and the same holes will take a screw on contact instead of a wire.
The top caps are different on purpose
v2 is raw brass. You are soldering to it, and solder doesn’t wet raw brass as readily — so it stays where you put it instead of running across the cap and into your clearances. The positive contact is RoHS tinned.
v3 is RoHS tinned at both ends. That covers either method: solder straight to it, or clamp a contact under a screw on a surface that won’t tarnish.
Mount it from either side
The v3 top cap carries six M2.5 tapped holes. Six holes, not because you need six screws, but so you can orient your fixing where it suits the build.
From the outside — M2.5 countersunk hex screws (DIN7991) drop straight into the tapped holes and sit flush.
From the inside — M2 socket screws (DIN912) pass clean through the M2.5 threads into M2 brass inserts, so the fixing is hidden inside the tube and nothing shows on the outside face.
Or skip the wire entirely and screw a contact straight on
The same six tapped holes take a screw on contact. Instead of running a lead from the tube to your board, the contact bolts directly to the cap and carries the current itself. Fewer joints, no solder, and the whole negative path comes apart with a hex key when you need it to.
We make contacts ourselves, in copper, nickel plated copper and 999 fine silver. There is no off-the-shelf contact for this tube yet, so at the moment these are made to order — tell us where your board sits and we will make one to suit.
Mounting from the inside? Fit the cord.
Every v3 tube ships with a length of 4mm red silicone cord. It is not decoration.
An internally mounted M2 socket head sits proud on the inside face of the cap. If that screw backs off it can drop and make contact with the positive terminal of the cell. The cord trims to length and fills the counterbore over the screw heads so there is nothing exposed and nothing to fall.
If you mount from the inside, fit the cord. We would also recommend a blue medium strength threadlock on the M2 screws — blue rather than red, so the cap still comes apart with a hex key when you need it to. The threadlock is what stops the screw moving in the first place. The cord is your backstop.
Cord supplied: 20mm of 4mm diameter red silicone — enough to cut plugs for every hole with plenty left over.
What you get
Every v3 is a complete tube: tube body, top cap, bottom cap, fittings and silicone cord.

Tube overall length 75.25mm. Outside diameter 21mm. Internal diameter 18.7mm. 65mm cell clearance.
Free optional polarity engraving
We don’t need to tell you how important it is that your customers put cells in the correct polarity. At best their device won’t work until the battery polarity is corrected. At worst they have thermal runaway.
These 18650 battery tubes as standard have a negative polarity marking inside the tube. If you DO NOT want us to mark them please leave a note at checkout, or email, phone in, message us etc and let us know. Do remember though we’re usually pretty snappy at shipping orders so get in touch as soon as you place your order. Or even before.
The marking now reads NEGATIV, NÉGATIF and NEGATIVE, each followed by a circled minus symbol, repeating around the inside of the tube. Three languages and a symbol, so it reads whichever market your customer is in — and the symbol carries it even where none of the words do.
Custom internal text is available but will be chargeable.
External 360° engraving and laser marking available
We have a selection of ready to go designs and files for 18650 battery tubes to choose from that we have created in the past, or you can supply your own artwork providing it’s good quality vector art in the correct dimensions. We need single colour, no background artwork with no overlapping lines, overlapping shapes or duplicate lines. For details about standards, dimensions and how to submit artwork for approval please contact us.
Some 18650 battery tube engravings take well over an hour so please expect a small lead time if an engraving services has been chosen for your battery tube.
